Check the Lynchburg city address and Lyn-CAG assistance file
Lynchburg Community Action Group offers housing counseling and a city-specific purchase-assistance route. Start with the provider directory above, then check the property and documents with Lyn-CAG before budgeting assistance. The Virginia hub covers statewide grants, loans and regional-provider options separately.
Bring lender preapproval and verify the city boundary
Lyn-CAG's down payment assistance page requires lender preapproval and a home within the City of Lynchburg. It describes gap financing as a deferred loan secured by property liens. Ask for current eligibility, funding and application instructions at 434-455-1601, extension 305. Request the agreement's repayment, sale, refinancing and occupancy conditions; deferred financing should not be treated as an unconditional grant.
Lyn-CAG's general service area includes Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford and Campbell counties as well as Lynchburg, but that broader agency footprint does not extend the listed city purchase program to those counties. Have staff verify the property jurisdiction rather than relying on a Lynchburg mailing address, and identify another administrator if the home falls outside the city.
Coordinate preparation with the program handling your application
Lyn-CAG lists pre-purchase counseling, financial-literacy workshops and a First Time Homebuyers Club. The club describes participation for people who have never owned a home or have not held primary ownership of a residence in the past three years. Ask how the club, individual counseling and a lender-accepted course fit your assistance file; do not assume club participation substitutes for preapproval or program eligibility.
The city's Grants Administration page publishes CDBG and HOME plans and performance reports and links Lyn-CAG's housing counseling services. Those plans explain public funding and program oversight; they are not a borrower award or a mortgage application. Use Lyn-CAG's instructions for its purchase file, and ask Grants Administration at 434-455-3900 if you need help identifying the current city housing-program contact.
